Welcome to Altitude Optometry, your local optometry clinic in Gatineau. Founded by Dr. Georges Louis, a native of Gatineau, and Dr. Danielle Richard, a couple of former traveling optometrists who practiced in over 30 clinics across Quebec before settling here.
Our mission
To provide residents of Gatineau and the Outaouais region with quality eye care in a trustworthy, pressure-free environment.
In practical terms, this means we take the time to work with each patient. We clearly explain what we see and what we recommend. If your current glasses are still in good condition, we’ll let you know. If treatment isn’t necessary, we’ll tell you that too. We bill your insurance directly to make things simple. And if you have an eye emergency on a Saturday morning, we’re here for you.
In addition to our professional services, we offer a selection of eyeglasses and frames to suit every style and budget, as well as high-quality French lenses.
Our history
Altitude Optometry was founded based on the vision of Dr. Georges Louis, a native of Gatineau who graduated from the University of Montreal in 2018. After earning his doctorate in optometry, he became a traveling optometrist, practicing in over 30 clinics across Quebec, from the North Shore to Chaudière-Appalaches and throughout the Quebec City region. This life on the road led him to obtain his pilot’s license. That is where the name Altitude Optometry comes from.
His wife, Dr. Danielle Richard, who also graduated in 2018, followed the same path as a traveling optometrist. Together, they have seen thousands of patients and learned from every work environment—what works, what doesn’t, what makes a patient come back year after year, and what keeps them from ever returning.
In 2024, they decided to return to Gatineau, the city where Dr. Louis grew up, to open their own clinic and put into practice everything they had learned along the way. In less than two years, Altitude Optometry became the highest-rated optometry clinic in Gatineau.
